Salon businesses – Is your beauticians, hairdressers, barbers protected?

salon businessRunning commercial salon businesses, operating as beauticians, hairdressers or barbers can be expensive for business owners, especially when investing time and money into good quality equipment and stock.

Providing expensive branded hair straighteners and hairdryers or carrying high spec stock such as beauty products not only gives customers a wider choice of services and products to buy but also promotes the salon brand as being high end / high quality which is good for customer loyalty and growing a customer base after all who doesn’t enjoy a bit of pampering and beauty grooming?!

Sadly, salon equipment and stock can often be sold on quickly

Subsequently, this type of equipment and stock is often in demand by some people who would like to pay a little less for it and so therefore it can be easily and privately sold onwards.  This means that sadly commercial salon businesses often become easy targets for thieves who are looking to make quick monetary returns without a trace on commercial stolen goods.

Protecting your salon equipment and stock is key to the longevity and successful running a salon.  Here at SGS Systems Ltd we support commercial salon businesses with commercial security of all sizes from single salons up to multi-chain companies throughout the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire. Installing a commercial burglar alarm at your commercial premises and installing CCTV equipment not only provides an adequate step towards deterring intruders but will also alert you, your staff and the public should an attempted theft occur.  To find out more about how we can help to support commercial salon businesses or any other commercial / retail business please speak to our commercial salon businesses security team today or see our property security website for more details.

Is your CCTV farm security ready for Lambing Season?

As lambing season gets underway, this month SGS Systems Ltd are focusing on how we can support farmers throughout this crucial time of year with CCTV farm security.

“Every year, 16 million ewes give birth here in the UK”, according to countryfile.com and although the season runs from November to May, it peaks during the spring season.  Many farmers will work long shifts of up to 12 hours or more.  Ewes will deliver the lambs unassisted out in the field, however first-time mums are often bought into the lambing shed so that the farmers can closely monitor the yews and be on hand to assist should any struggle when giving birth.

Keeping an eye on both experienced and first-time ewe mum’s makes it an extremely busy time for farmers to monitor several locations around the farm, especially when not all ewes will survive and so it is important that farmers are on hand to help wherever possible.

CCTV farm security can help to monitor livestock

Implementing CCTV farm security can help to relieve some of the demand that farmers undertake.  Here at SGS Systems Ltd we support farmers and their livestock by installing multiple CCTV camera’s in a variety of locations, both internally and externally means that livestock can be monitored from a single location, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Our cameras are non-intrusive and offer infa-red live imagery so that animals can be seen and monitored clearly.

For more information on CCTV farm security and to find out how we can support your commercial farm business, please contact our sales team at SGS Systems Ltd.  As certified providers to the NFU coupled with a vast level of commercial experience we provide a commercial security monitoring service to suit your individual farm business which are scale-able from a single system to multi-level use.

5 Top Tips for new home security

To help put you on the right track in terms of new home security, here are some top tips to get put you on the right track:

  1. Change the locks – When you first move into a property, change the locks so that you have a fresh set of keys, after all you don’t know who has lived in the property before you or who has keys and access to the property.
  2. Get to know your neighbours – Don’t be shy and introduce yourselves, they offer an extra set of eyes and ears to keep your property safe.
  3. Clear your garden – Overgrown shrubs and trees provide easy hiding places for intruders to wait. Clearing up your pathways and garden, especially around doorways, will reduce their opportunities.
  4. Check doors and windows – Before leaving the property, make sure that doors and windows are not left open. Close and lock to reduce the potential of easy access from an unwanted intruder.
  5. Install a new home security alarm – SGS Systems Ltd provide the very best quality in new home security burglar alarms and CCTV monitoring equipment. Visible security systems such as a bell box or a camera fitted to the exterior of the property not only offers protection but can also deter thieves.

Protecting Rural Area’s with CCTV Technology

During 2018, SGS Systems Ltd were approached by Lapley, Stretton & Wheaton Aston Parish council to install and maintain CCTV technology security on Marston Field in Wheaton Aston.  Prior to this, other options had been considered and a variety of interventions had been made to try to discourage increasing levels of anti-social behaviour within the area, yet all options produced little success.

As a result of multi-agency working, SGS Systems Ltd were privileged to provide CCTV technology monitoring equipment which will see the protection of the community area increased, by the installation of 2 self-monitoring cameras, utilising CSL dual com and a 4G router.  Whilst, the time and date is visible on every frame to make the recording admissible as evidence.

Many aspects have to be considered when under-taking such a project which often involves the police, local authorities, families and residents, voluntary organisations through to environmental associates.  There is also specific legislation which communities are required by law to adhere too.

If you install a CCTV camera overlooking a public place, such as a walkway that runs behind a terrace of houses or the road at the end of a cul-de-sac, the images you capture are subject to the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA). The Act gives everyone the right to see information you captured about them, such as images of them or their car number plate. It also sets strict rules that CCTV operators must follow when they gather, store, and release CCTV images of individuals. – according to the Neighboorhood Watch Website – https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/crimes-archive/cctv/

To find out more about how we could help your community area, community centre, recreation ground or park space, please contact our property security sales team at SGS Systems Ltd.  Through a confidential review of the community area and working closely with individual community groups, SGS Systems Ltd are on hand to suggest a security solution to suit your budget and meet the protection needs of the community.

Our vehicle security could reduce the chance of car chopping

vehicle security

It’s getting chilly out there! With the temperature gradually falling as we move into the winter season, the appeal to heat up our cars and defrost our windscreens whilst leaving the engine running or leave the keys in the ignition whilst we nip back into the house is tempting.

In 2018, Birmingham Live editorial highlighted the effects of ‘car brands most commonly carjacked in the West Midlands’ and the growing popularity of ‘car chopping’ through organised crime gangs who involved children as young as 15 years old to steal cars.

Ford Cars and Vans were the most popular models stolen, whilst Land Rover, Vauxhall, BMW, Audi and Hondas also demonstrated as desirable brands.  In many cases the cars are broken down and sold for parts through the likes of eBay, Gumtree, Autotrader and other selling sites by making criminals millions of pounds through ‘chopping up’.

In arecent article by the UK Metropolitain Police, they offer useful advice at: https://www.met.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/theft-of-a-vehicle/vehicle-attracting-thieves/ and highlight the fact that it is “actually illegal to leave your vehicle running unattended while you de-ice it or warm it up in cold weather.” “If someone takes it while it’s left like this, your insurer won’t pay out because you won’t be covered.”

Methods to improve your vehicle security

The answer is don’t make it easy for the opportunists! Here at SGS Systems Ltd, we help to protect vehicles with a number of vehicle security solutions and as a result can reduce the occurrence of a theft incident through the installation of our vehicle security protection package:

Security Lighting – Operating on sensors from dusk until dawn, our external security lighting can be powered by energy efficient LED Units that will illuminate the area of a domestic drive up to the size of a carpark.  Effective security lighting will work successfully on many levels, from deterring un-wanted intruders who don’t want to be seen to illuminating footage captured by CCTV camera security.

CCTV Security Our 24/7 security monitoring equipment is supplied and installed to the highest standards with time and dates visible on every frame to make the recording admissible as evidence.  Our CCTV security systems are configured to meet your budget, premises size and level of risk.

Garage Security Locking your vehicle in a garage / enclosed area is probably the most secure method in protecting your vehicle. Here at SGS Systems Ltd, we provide garage security as part of an extension to your house alarm to include alarm installation through inferred wired and wireless options.
